Meeting with New Zealand Labour Party MP's
July 2024
In July 2024 we sat down with Labour Party MPs at Juliette Hogan’s workroom to share the findings from our recent Threads of Tomorrow report and bring them up to speed on the importance of New Zealand's fashion, clothing and textile sector, and the significant contribution it makes to jobs and the economy.
The NZ fashion, textile and clothing industry contributes $7.8 billion to the economy (that’s 1.9% of GDP), employs 77k workers (2.4% of the workforce) and is intrinsically linked with women's economic advancement, with 78% of our workforce female.
It was a fantastic opportunity to provide insights to MPs across Aotearoa covering a wide range of portfolios from finance to environment to workforce development and manufacturing to help inform policy development.
We informed them about our work at Mindful Fashion, our strong mandate with support from more than 110 business members and our mission to create a thriving future for the sector across 4 key action areas and 19 recommendations. We are at a critical turning point for the industry and the report sets out a pathway for industry transformation so that business, people and the environment can thrive.
