Hanga-Aro-Rau Introduces their Skills and Workforce Leadership Plan

August 17, 2022

Welcome to Hanga-Aro-Rau’s Skills and Workforce Leadership Plan 2022/23.

As an industry that straddles both the creative and manufacturing sectors, fashion and textiles in Aotearoa has fallen between the cracks for many years. That is finally starting to change thanks to Hanga Aro Rau, the Manufacturing, Engineering and Logistics Workforce Development Council.

We are proud to be featured as a spotlight industry in their first Skills and Workforce Leadership Plan. This is a great outcome of all the work put in over the last two years bridging the gap between industry and Government. HAR are now actively working with the industry to address critical skills gaps in our sector.

A skilled local workforce is fundamental in building a resilient and thriving industry here. In particular, manufacturing locally not only has a lower emissions profile than much offshore manufacturing, it also provides local jobs and supports a more circular economy for our clothes.
