Going Circular
November 2024
M2 Woman reports on how the Mindful Fashion Circular Design Award challenges designers and brands to rethink the way we design, make and consume our clothes.
An astonishing 52,000 tonnes of clothing waste is sent to landfill in Aotearoa every year, fueled by a fast fashion throw away culture.
Jacinta FitzGerald, CE of Mindful Fashion says,
"Around the world, millions of tonnes of clothing are produced, worn and thrown away each year, with more than 85% ending up on landfill. We need to focus on collective solutions to do better.
As our industry report Threads of Tomorrow found, moving towards circular systems has the potential to reduce emissions by one third, and generate social, environmental and economic value for New Zealand, and the Circular Design Award is an avenue to explore tangible ways to do this."
