Fashion Activism and the Environment

In February 2025 our Chief Executive Jacinta FitzGerald was honoured to be invited to speak at Te Papa in Wellington as part of the Vivienne Westwood exhibition programming.

Speaking alongside sustainable fashion leaders Gosia Piatek founder of Kowtow, Bobby Luke founder and designer at Campbell Luke, and writer Olivia Jordan who brought the inside stories from her time working with Vivienne, the panel discussed the important role of clothing in telling stories, the need for change and the role activism plays within business.

Jacinta highlighted the challenges and underestimated value and contribution of NZ's fashion clothing and textile industry to our economy and workforce, outlining the roadmap we have developed through Threads of Tomorrow, and calling on the Government to meet with us to work on some of these key projects to build a more resilient and thriving sector. The highly engaged audience was curious about the challenges facing the sector and it was a great opportunity to share some of the stories of Mindful Fashion members who are leading the charge to a more circular fashion ecosystem in Aotearoa.
